Isn’t it crazy how God works? The way He is in every single detail of our lives. Nothing is too small, too insignificant. There is nothing that He hasn’t designed to use for our good or anything bad He can’t turn around. Even the smallest detail He can use to shape us, to mold us, to teach us, and to guide us.

When you have a difficult co-worker that you just can’t seem to ever please, He teaches us to love even the people who are hardest to love. When our children drive us bonkers and we want to hide in a closet, He is teaching us self-control. When we feel like we’ve been waiting forever for the answer to our prayer, He is lovingly teaching us patience, and when He says NO to those prayers He is teaching us discipline. When we feel horrible after reacting badly to a situation he is teaching us conviction.

You know that old man in the grocery line who takes forever when you’re in a hurry? Yup. He’s teaching us Kindness. Or You know those really embarrassing things that happen to us like falling in front of a bunch of people (which I’ve done), Spilling coffee all over yourself (which I’ve also done), or when you get caught taking selfies (guilty too) He even uses those moments so we can learn not to take ourselves too serious. When someone breaks your heart and you feel like you will never be okay again, He is teaching you to love and value yourself. When you stay up until 2 am doing homework when you have to wake up at 6 for work, He is teaching you perseverance. When you feel like you give so much of yourself every day and not getting anything in return, He is teaching you selflessness.

During that time we are helping take care of an elderly family member, He is teaching us compassion. When we’re trying to decide if we should date that guy or girl (which you probably shouldn’t) (also guilty of that one) He is teaching us discernment. That time when someone hurt us so bad we felt we could never forgive them? He is teaching us just that; forgiveness. When we see someone who is going through a difficult situation and instead of praying for them we judge them and say “I would never do that”, and then we do it. Yup, it happens. He’s teaching us to be humble. When we don’t get the job we wanted He is teaching us to wait. When we go through hard times He is teaching us strength, when we get bad medical results, when we’re in situations where we feel there is no way out, He is teaching us HOPE. That moment when you think to yourself, “well that was perfect timing” that wasn’t a coincidence; that was Him.

When we get an unexpected text from a friend at a time when we really needed it, he is giving us the gift of reassurance. When we are stressed, overwhelmed and anxious, He teaches us peace. When we can’t make ends meet and have no idea how we’re going to pay our bills He is teaching us to Trust Him. When we get to the end of the month and manage to still have food on the table and we have no idea how, He is showing us His provision. When people let us down, He is teaching us to always rely on Him. In the moments we are trying to hear His voice but feel like He is silent, He is teaching us to listen. When anyone rejects us, He shows us acceptance. When you find a sweet note from your kids, or when they look up at you and randomly say “I love you”, He is showing us gentleness.

When we lose a loved one He teaches us that life is too short and we should love and appreciate people while they are here. When you hurt your spouse but they still love you and forgive you, He is teaching you grace. When we fail Him and others every single day but He doesn’t condemn us, when He easily could, He is showing us Mercy. Most importantly, when He sent His ONLY son to die on the cross for our sins, He showed us the greatest thing of all…Love. . Just to think that the same God who made the Heaven and the Earth, who put the stars in the sky, who is the beginning and the end, the creator of the Universe, the God who the dirt and the waters and the animals obey, is the same God who loves us and cares for us and is at work in every detail of our life, every single day, should leave us in complete awe of Him. If you are ever wondering where He is, look around you, He is always up to something.

P.S.

When we drink coffee in the morning He is showing us His GLORY. Ha-ha. (At least to me anyway)

“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.”- Psalm 8:3-5 ❤
